Misty Kirby, M.A., LCSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over twenty-five years of experience walking alongside people through some of the most defining chapters of their lives. My education includes a bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in marriage and family counseling. I began my career with the Department of Community-Based Services in Child Protective Services, where I worked with families in crisis and gained a practical, firsthand understanding of trauma and resilience. Over the years, I have served children and families in foster care, supported students in an alternative day treatment school, and provided grief and bereavement services through Bluegrass Hospice and Palliative Care. Those experiences shaped me into a clinician who is grounded, trauma-informed, and deeply human in how I show up.

In my private practice, I work with adults and older teenagers navigating post-traumatic stress, anxiety, ADHD, depression, mood disorders, obsessive–compulsive symptoms, and the far-reaching aftermath of trauma. My style is warm, direct, and collaborative. I want the space we create to feel safe enough for honesty and sturdy enough for the kind of work that actually leads to real change.

Clinically, I draw from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness-based practices, and a range of trauma-informed modalities. I am also trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a neuroscience-backed trauma treatment that helps the brain process painful experiences in a faster, gentler way. It is one of my favorite tools because it allows people to reclaim parts of themselves without having to relive every painful detail.

Mindfulness is not just something I teach; it’s something I practice. I often integrate mindfulness and grounding skills into therapy as practical, accessible tools to help clients regulate their nervous systems and stay connected to the present moment, especially when life feels overwhelming.

My practice is intentionally inclusive. LGBTQ+ clients, neurodivergent clients, and people of every identity, background, and lived experience are welcome here exactly as you are. I am committed to being a safe person in a world that doesn’t always make that easy to find.

In my free time, I recharge through hot yoga, meditation, and spending time with my own Tier One group which are my close circle of family and friends that keep me grounded and connected. After more than two and a half decades in this field, I still believe deeply in people. Healing is possible. Change is possible. And you don’t have to face any of it alone.

When you’re ready, I’ll meet you with honesty, skill, and real support, the kind of steady care your story deserves.
